This event exposes budding designers from schools all over Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas to the real world of interior design, while bringing them together to learn from established professionals and industry members. We are pleased to let you know that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

This year’s theme is in honor of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The two-day event will be filled with rich opportunities, exciting new venues and will EXPOSE you to the reality of this amazingly diverse profession. You will be able to INTERACT one-on-one with successful professionals from all facets of design and PROVE TO YOURSELF that your passion for this industry goes beyond the classroom.

-ASID Texas State Chapter will be hosting a DIY Competition in which 5 teams will be given $25 to create decorative objects around the house.

-The decorative objects will be judged by Professors for originality, functionality, and execution. The objects will be auctioned to the audience. Proceeds will go to ASID Texas State to cover our cost for putting on the competition.

-This is a great way to make new friends and practice your design skills.

Saturday, October 1st

2nd Street, Austin, TX; 10 am – 3 pm

-ASID Texas State Chapter will be meeting at Cristi Peterson’s house in Austin to build a doghouse on the weekends leading up to October 1st.

-On the day of the competition, architects and designers will be showcasing their doghouses alongside ours, as the crowd bids on them.

About Me:

Graduating in May of 2011.  I will be interning with The Design Firm in Stafford, Texas.  I am from Alvin, Texas. I love Residential Design and have worked in the industry for 5 years.

Design Philosophy:

Artwork is an expression of the artist’s feelings, emotions, and perspectives on life.  Design is a type of artwork and as the artist I can express myself, such as my emotions, personality, and perspective on life. Design allows me to positively impact others by creating a harmonious environment that produces productivity; it also allows me to create a universal piece that continues to impact future generations.  This ability to positively leave a legacy brings an indescribable joy.

My definition of design is a process in which the principles and elements of design create the framework to form a beautiful transformation.  Along with the design tools, the culmination of the past, present, and future design theories are orchestrated together to create a universal canvas.  One marked by the unique aspects of history, human psychology, and behavior, and the natural scenery surrounding us.  This transformation increases the productivity and emotional well being of today’s society to create a space that not only impacts the world today but establishes a mile-marker in history.

My traditional view of design and my creative view of color, line, shape, and form, allow a type of type of design that is classic, but is also innovative, and inspiring.

About Me:

I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas State University with BS in Interior Design.  Texas State University has some of the most intelligent and talented professors in the field, and I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn from them.  I served as the ASID Student Chapter President-Elect and President while actively working with the IIDA Student Chapter.

I currently work as a Realtor with Pauly+Presley Realty.  Before joining the Pauly + Presley team, I was luck to work the talented ladies at PPDS Design+Interiors as an Assistant Designer.  Finally, while attending Texas State I worked as a Contract Lighting Consultant with Lighting Application Sciences, LLC in San Marcos, TX.  Before getting my degree, I served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps.  I worked in the Intelligence and Communication fields while serving in both Hawaii and Iraq.  Over the last 10 years I’ve met amazing people from all walks of life, got to see some incredible places, and had once-in-a-lifetime experiences that I wouldn’t trade for the world.

The Annual IIDA Student Show is just around the corner, so get your projects ready.  This annual student show will be held at the Gensler Showroom at the W Hotel in Austin, in conjunction with their annual training event.  We host this event to showcase the immense amount of talent we have in the Texas State Interior Design program.

It will be open to to the public so feel free to invite your family and friends, but as our show is involved with such a large professional event, we are being more selective this year than every before.  There will be a $12 submission fee to have your entries in the show, and a $5 cover for general admission at the door.

The submission deadline is March 21st by, but get your work ready now.

Selections will be made on March 23rd.  Select-ees will receive an email that evening and will have until Monday, March 28th 5pm to pay their $12 submission fee.

Take advantage of this event to not only show off your work, but to network with professionals from all design backgrounds in the Austin area.
